 About the Conference
 
Chinese character is not only an important part of Chinese culture, but also a unique feature among a number of Asian languages in different countries, including China, Korea, Japan, Singapore and so on. Research and education on Chinese character has already become a significant global issue. Under such circumstances, Centre for Advancement of Chinese Language Education and Research (CACLER) at the University of Hong Kong, the Korea Society of Education in Chinese Characters and Classics, and Ethnic Chinese Classic Texts and Characters Research Centre at Beijing Normal University have co-hosted the first and second International Conference on Learning and Teaching of Chinese Characters which were held in Hong Kong and South Korea respectively. Building upon accomplishments and successes in the first two conferences, the third one will be held at Beijing, China in the summer of 2012.
 
This Conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers and practitioners from different countries to discuss and share their ideas, perspectives, experiences and research findings of teaching and learning of Chinese characters. Submission of abstracts / papers is invited which should embrace the conference theme and main areas as follows:
 
(1) Chinese character education: including theoretical framework, teaching and learning materials, pedagogical strategies, information technology in Chinese character education; classical Chinese or literary Chinese and so on.
(2) Researches on Chinese character: including history of Chinese character, philology of Chinese character, theoretical framework, annotation, study of Chinese character etc.
